Physical Education Program
The Physical Education program at Lalor East PS offers a foundation for lifelong physical activity participation. Students from Grades Prep-6 participate in a one hour specialist Physical Education lesson and 45 minutes of fitness with their classroom teacher. Throughout their primary education, students develop proficiency in movement skills by learning Fundamental Motor Skills, such as the run, leap, dodge, throw and catch. These Fundamental skills develop into sport specific skills, where concepts such as moving into space and strategic thinking are explored.
Over a two year curriculum, students will be exposed to a variety of sports and activities. These range from Athletics, Skipping, Dance and Gymnastics to Soccer, Volleyball, AFL, Netball and Basketball. A variety of teaching styles are used to engage students, such as SEPEP (Sport Education in Physical Education Programs), Peer Teaching and Teaching Games for Understanding.
Interschool Sport & Extracurricular Activities
Students in Grades 5 & 6 participate in either Interschool Sport or an Alternative Sports Program on Friday mornings during Terms 1, 2 & 4. Whole School Events
The two main whole school events that are run by the Health & Physical Education committee are: Jump Rope for Heart and House Sports.
Jump Rope for Heart is held in Term 2, in conjunction with Education Week. During our “Jump Off” afternoon, the school is split into multi-age groups and complete half an hour of skipping fun! A special demonstration group performs in front of the whole school to conclude the event and a donation is made to the Heart Foundation on behalf of Lalor East PS.
Our annual House Sports carnival is held on the Thursday of Cup Week each year. Students compete for their House: Blue, Yellow, Red or Green in tabloid sports and running races. To end the day, each House participates in a parade where they showcase their comradery and team spirit. The winning House is engraved on a shield that is kept in our Multipurpose Centre.
