Numeracy at Lalor East Primary School has a strong focus on developing students proficiency in fluency, understanding, problem-solving and reasoning.

Students are exposed to concepts from the six strands of Mathematics:

• Number
• Algebra
• Measurement
• Space
• Statistics
• Probability (From Level 3)

Our main aim across all year levels is to present a mathematics program with the following:

• Meaningful context through real life scenarios
• Develop Mathematical skills to problem solve
• Explicit teaching of new concepts
• Use games to build fluency
• Target students’ individual needs
• Use visuals and hands on materials to support their learning
• Continuous assessment to monitor students’ learning
• Provide opportunities for open ended problems to challenge students’ thinking
